Rescuing a Wayward Thinline and Trying to not get Ripped Off – Squier CV 60s Telecaster Thinline

I am sure you have probably seen the dodo videos on YouTube where someone finds a kitten out in the rain that looks really bad and they take them in and adopt them and then as time moves forward in the video you see a happy and healthy kitten running around the house.

That is me with guitars. I see one that needs care and next thing I know it is home with me.

I was recently on Reverb and saw a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Telecaster Thinline that was missing an output jack and a few other things. The price was very reasonable, and I sent the seller a message. It was then I realized that the seller had zero feedback.

I have been burnt before by not paying attention to feedback on eBay. I got ripped off by a person that did not have any feedback for $800 that months later I did get back from eBay. I did not want that to happen again.

He assured me that he would not rip me off and was for real. I finally decided to move forward and take the risk for the following reasons.

He actually seemed to be well spoken and a real and genuine person. This has not been my experience with people that are trying to scam you.

Why would a rip off seller try and sell something that had obvious faults like missing parts. They would present a guitar that was too good to be true in my experience.

I was relieved a week later to actually get a guitar delivered to me and was happy to be his first feedback entry on Reverb.

The guitar needed a little care and feeding.

When I pulled the strings off, I found that one of the tuning pegs was bent and needed to be replaced.

I was able to fish the output jack out and install a new cup.

The tone and volume pots cut in and out and I eventually replaced them with quality CTS pots.

All in all, a very nice little guitar after some care and feeding.
