In the prior video we asked the question – What is the best sounding budget set of Telecaster pickups out there? Link to the video is in the video description and at the top of the video comments.

The criteria for pickup selection was:
• The pickup set cost less than $100 not including shipping and tax.
• The pickups are not custom-made pickups.
• The pickups are commonly and commercially available as an over-the-counter product through sales outlets like Amazon.com.

Note: We will be doing a future video where we compare budget priced boutique pickup sets including Bootstrap, Red Rock Guitar, Tone Hatch, and others to still be named. If you know of a telecaster pickup maker that makes hand wound pickups that are less than $100 per set please let me know in the comments.

Process recap

I took a brand new Squier Affinity Telecaster and installed all six sets of pickups.

I used the same strings, amp, and settings for each set of audio samples.

I played a simple clean chord progression for each sample.

I published a survey where I let folks vote anonymously once giving a value of 1 to 10 for each of the six pickups. I voted myself as well.

We had 330 viewers vote in the survey which is pretty cool. In the following you will see the rankings for each pickup in the order of number 6 to number 1. You will also as a reminder hear the samples of the neck and bridge pickup audio samples while you check out the stats.

I will say that two rankings surprised me. First was where Fender fell with the Tex Mex pickups and how well Wilkinson did. Without any further delays here are the rankings.
