Fender Squier CV FSR 60s Thinline Telecaster – Pickup Swap – Tex Mex – Mojotone solderless harness

Hello, my name is Matt – welcome to the latest updates on the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Thinline Telecaster FSR in Sonic Blue!

So while this is a lovely guitar representing great vfm, the level to which the neck pickup is microphonic was affecting the playability for me.

Unaccustomed as I am to Soddering (or soldering for those who speak English) – this presented a good opportunity to try out one of the Mojotone solderless wiring harnesses and match it with some Fender Tex Mex pickups.

How hard can it be?

Well….

…quite a bit harder than I’d envisaged!

Hurdle 1 Imperial Vs Metric – a hasty purchase was made for a spare pickguard/scratchplate to accomodate the larger shafts on the cts pots…

Hurdle 2 The Fender Tex Mex bridge pickup is unfit for solderless purpose – no brass base plate and the ground wire is too short to reach the harness…

Hurdle 3 After fitting the tex mex neck and squier bridge to the harness and pearly pickguard a quick test showed it sounded great but the tone pot was not working – User error? Probably! Blimey!

Hurdle 4 Decided to file/ream the holes on the anodised pickguard and retrace the steps re. the tone pot – Result! All appears to be working for now.

Have ordered the Wilkinson bridge and Alnico V Broadcaster bridge pickup to be installed in a future installment…

Work done time for bit of PedalScape-ry = Verdict sounds loud and bright – thought that may have been the pots but further research would suggest it’s the treble bleed circuit – Twangy!!!

Thanks for reading this far and hope you enjoy the video.
Cheers,
Matt 😎
