Fender Squier CV FSR 60s Thinline Telecaster – Pickup Swap – Tex Mex – Mojotone solderless harness Admin, July 30, 2024 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4Ua_XXD5DY&showinfo=0&rel=0Hello, my name is Matt – welcome to the latest updates on the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Thinline Telecaster FSR in Sonic Blue! So while this is a lovely guitar representing great vfm, the level to which the neck pickup is microphonic was affecting the playability for me. Unaccustomed as I am to Soddering (or soldering for those who speak English) – this presented a good opportunity to try out one of the Mojotone solderless wiring harnesses and match it with some Fender Tex Mex pickups. How hard can it be? Well…. …quite a bit harder than I’d envisaged! Hurdle 1 Imperial Vs Metric – a hasty purchase was made for a spare pickguard/scratchplate to accomodate the larger shafts on the cts pots… Hurdle 2 The Fender Tex Mex bridge pickup is unfit for solderless purpose – no brass base plate and the ground wire is too short to reach the harness… Hurdle 3 After fitting the tex mex neck and squier bridge to the harness and pearly pickguard a quick test showed it sounded great but the tone pot was not working – User error? Probably! Blimey! Hurdle 4 Decided to file/ream the holes on the anodised pickguard and retrace the steps re. the tone pot – Result! All appears to be working for now. Have ordered the Wilkinson bridge and Alnico V Broadcaster bridge pickup to be installed in a future installment… Work done time for bit of PedalScape-ry = Verdict sounds loud and bright – thought that may have been the pots but further research would suggest it’s the treble bleed circuit – Twangy!!! Thanks for reading this far and hope you enjoy the video. Cheers, Matt 😎 Working Title: Back To Gold. ************************************ Time Stamps: 0:00 Intro and unbox of pickups and wiring harness 3:30 Before sounds 7:49 Knobs and more unboxing of pickguard and more knobs 10:56 some footage of the stripping down 16:29 After sounds 1: first try with the tex mex neck – tone not working 20:30 intro and blurb for 2nd try Back to Gold pickguard… 25:12 Tap Test, tone test and Clean (ish) Tones 26:44 Give it some AT and Halo Sunshine! 28:10 This thing plays itself! 29:45 Halo, Hydra cloudburst 30:45 More finger picking 33:56 Major Third into Blue. 36:06 Back to the Pick 38:18 Change the quarters back 40:20 Motif across the octaves… 42:00 Mellow back down to E minor 46:13 All roads lead to… 51:58 Outro and conclusion (for now). *************************************** A simple stereo Wet Dry Wet setup.
